Elementary School Snack Food Standards Calculator
This Snack Food Calculator will determine if an individual dairy or whole grain food item meets the food standards. This calculator is for use with those "snacks" that are sold outside of the National School Breakfast of Lunch Program.

Start Here:
The following snack foods do not have to meet the fat and saturated fat limits. These snack items do not need to be put in the calculator.
·non-fried fruits/vegetables
·seeds (such as sunflower seeds)
·nuts
·eggs
·nut butters (such as peanut butter)
·string cheese

Step 1:
The only foods allowed for sale in elementary schools are dairy items and whole grain food items*.

Step 2:
Your dairy item or whole grain food item must be 175 calories or less per container to be sold in elementary schools.  If the number of calories per container is higher than 175, the food cannot be sold in the container and the food must be repackaged in a smaller serving size. Enter information from the Nutrition Facts label to determine how many calories your container has:

Step 3:
If you have a dairy or whole grain food item that is 175 calories per container or less, enter the nutrition information from the Nutrition Facts label in the fields below to determine if the item meets the standards.  Beverages have their own set of nutrition guidelines.
